In all cases, we need to perform the task and reach our goals/objectives. To differentiate the goals and objectives we are going to examine and figure out some points about both terms. In short, a goal is a task that would be achieved with a long-term process. On the other hand, an objective is also a task but it is a short-term oriented performance. The objective is short-term process-based tasks that include measurable efforts. The objectives help to achieve the overall goal. Let’s take an example for a better understanding. If a company is on the startup step and wants to reach the top then that must complete its task on time to time basis. So, each task of the company that has to complete on time will be counted in the objectives. Since the measurable actions to be performed to achieve an overall goal is called an objective. 


Classes Of Goals

In order to understand the difference between goals and objectives, we first need to learn this. There are mainly three classes of Goals. To comprehend the Goals in a pleasing manner we need to understand all these classes of goals.

  • Time Bound
  • Outcome-oriented 
  • Process Oriented
  1. Time Bound Goals: The time-bound goals are those goals that have a deadline. In the time-bound goals, we must have to complete the particular task within a limited time. For example, The teacher gives you a deadline to complete your work within 15 days. On the 16th day, the teacher won’t check your exercise notebook. 
  2. Outcome-Oriented Goals: This kind of goal includes the end result. The Outcome-oriented goals focussed on the result of the tasks, instead of concentrating on the timeline. For example, A person’s outcome-oriented goal is to become a writer. No matter how long he will have to practice for that. 
  3. Process-Oriented Goals: The goal includes the direction of the tasks. Process-Oriented Goals are the goals which do provide the plan to perform the tasks. For example, A child has made up his mind to study for 3 hours daily. It does not count how much syllabus he can cover and in how much time. Since it doesn’t care about the timeline and the end result.


Classes Of Objectives

The objectives are mainly classified into three categories. To comprehend the objectives in a pleasing manner we need to understand all these classes of objectives.

  • Strategic objectives
  • Tactical objectives
  • Operational objectives
  1. The Strategic Objectives: The strategic objectives include the strategies that need to be made and full fill to achieve any task, mission, or event. The strategic objective shows us a direction for the further process of the mission. It let us know in which direction we are going to perform our task. For example, if any company wants to complete its project in 7 months. Then they will make strategies. Like which employee will perform which task, how long, which technology, what deadline they will decide for it the last test, what resources, etc
  2. The Tactical Objective: Tactical activities occur when strategic objectives take place in real-time within a time frame. The tactical objective is an immediate result of the recent activity & also called the short-term desired result. For example, when a company makes a strategy like a particular task should be completed in this months. So the actual performance of that tasks will count in the tactical objective. 
  3. The Operational Objective: The operational objectives include what will happen next in the tactical tasks. For example, the all tasks of the company are performing well in terms of prepared strategies. But which step needs to be done after all prepared strategies would be done? If a company has made strategies for 6 months for a project. Then all efforts of the 7th month will be counted in the operational objective.
