Top Nine Accessories for glass.

Top accessories for glass. The most important thing to think about is which color to use on the glass. You have several options, including the typical glass color, but you should also consider glass crayons and glass spray paints. Think about the effect you want to achieve and how big your workspace is. If you just want to dabble in colored glass, colored glass pens are a great option for you as they are extremely easy to use and relatively clean. And also check my pencil drawing ideas.

Here are our recommendations for the best-stained glass accessories:

Glass color

Glass paints come in a wide range of vibrant colors including glass accessories that are available in both oil and water-based. Some of the water-based glass colors can be useful when making practical household items, as the colors can be set in the oven, making them dishwasher safe. If you’re a complete beginner, look for a lens paint kit that also includes a lens contour, like these lens paints from Pebeo Vitrail.

Glass crayons

Glass pastels are versatile and can be used to decorate both ceramic and glass. Choose clear glass colored markers for the traditional stained glass look, or opt for something like POSCA colored markers if you’re looking for solid color blocks. You can get special glass crayons, otherwise, any kind of permanent marker will work – we especially like the acrylic crayons here at Gathered.

Spray paint for glass

If you’re working on a large area, it might be worth using glass spray paint. Most spray paints are suitable for use on glass but read the instructions first. If you want to block out large areas with paint before adding finer stained glass details, spray paint is a good idea. Ideally, you should use the spray paint outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

Denatured alcohol

Denatured alcohol is not strictly necessary, but it is a useful commodity when painting glass, especially if you plan to sell your products. Before starting to paint, it is a good idea to clean the glass to be painted with denatured alcohol. This degreases the glass surface and the paint adheres better to the surface. Make sure you do this in a well-ventilated area.

Cutting knife

A craft knife is useful for cleaning up stray glass garnish globes that have dried in place. It is also useful for hand-cutting your stained glass stencils, especially those with intricate details. A craft knife is also a useful general-purpose item to have in your craft room, but of course, keep it away from children and animals. This is the # 1 bestseller. 1 on Art Knives on Amazon and we appreciate the soft grip of this particular one.

Glass profiles

A glass contour is a type of acrylic paste. It comes in a tube with a thin nozzle and you apply the coating by spraying (squeezing) through that tube. The lens outline creates a raised outline that prevents different areas of color from running into each other. The most popular type of glass garnish is back, but it is also available in other colors including gold and silver. You don’t need to use a glass contour (we don’t use one in this tutorial), but if you like the effect of colored glass, using a glass contoured is ideal.

Brush

If you use regular glass paint that you apply with brushes, a good set will do. Look for a set that includes a range of brush sizes and be sure to wash the brushes immediately after use.

Glass to decorate

Chances are you already have a few jars laying around the house that you would like to decorate. But if you don’t, it’s easy to shop at most pound shops, craft stores, and supermarkets. Clear glass is the most versatile and easiest to paint, but tinted or frosted glass is also worth considering, as applying glass paint to much-frosted glass makes it transparent. If the enamel is the result of an etching – then obviously this doesn’t make it transparent – but if the enamel is the result of a coating applied to the glass, applying this will most likely make it transparent.

Stencil for glass painting

If you’re looking for quick and easy stained glass projects, from glass accessories, using stained glass stencils is a great option. Why not let somebody else do all the difficult jobs for you? And using stained glass stencils couldn’t be easier. Just glue them behind the glass with low-tack masking tape (like washi tape or masking tape) and draw the design on top. If you wish, you can use a fine permanent pen or start immediately with the glass contour or self-adhesive lead.

Lead self-adhesive

The self-adhesive lead is available in rolls and if you are interested in making your stained glass windows, the use of lead is a great alternative to using the liquid glass contour. Using lead in your trade may sound scary, but I promise you it isn’t. If you can use double-sided tape, you can use self-adhesive lead. Just make sure it’s pressed firmly into the glass before you start painting. The wire itself is quite soft, which makes it easy to manipulate and easy to cut. And this may seem obvious, but it’s worth saying: don’t use lead on objects that could come into contact with food or drink!
