Steel billet is the term for newly created steel still in the shape of a rectangle or a metal bar.

Steel billets are different from tmt steel bars and other products that have already been made. The characteristics include the following:
- There is a distinct grain structure in the billets. This makes it impossible to get the metal out of the process.
- Steel billets are also very flexible and elastic, significantly when the temperatures change while they are being shaped and moulded.

Processing & Casting
Steel billets, raw materials, have to go through a series of production steps before they can be used for different things.

Steel Billets Vs Steel Ingots
Forgers use steel billets or ingots to make a wide range of steel products, such as round, square, or flat steel bars or steel parts. But billets and ingots have different characteristics.
What are Steel Ingots?
Steel ingots are big steel blocks made by pouring hot metal into moulds. Most foundries use a method called “bottom pouring” to make ingots. The nugget’s cross-section can be square, rectangular, round, or have more than two sides.
The cross-section gets smaller from one end of the ingot to the other. It has a hot top, which gives the ingot its shape. As the steel cools during the casting process, the impurities are caught by the hot top, which is then thrown away.
What are steel billets?
On a CCM, steel billets were made by pouring molten metal repeatedly (continuous castings machine). Most of the time, they are square but can also be flat or round.
The cross-section is the same through the length of the billet, and the lengths can be cut to fit the needs of the casting process while the billet is still hot.
