Tendon Repair Surgery in India
Tendon Repair Surgery in India: Tendon surgery is done for a variety of reasons, including the repair of tears to the tendon caused by accidents or athletic injuries.
The surgeon examines the tendon to see whether it is thickened and in a damaged state.
If it is, the tendon is cut and sutured with surgical staples, and the surgeon fills the wound with a material that will hold the stitches in place for a few weeks. The repair is then covered by a splint that is worn for a few weeks. A typical tendon repair surgery usually takes 1 or 2 hours. However, some cases may take longer.
Tendons are basically cord-like structures that are strong fibrous connective tissue that connects muscles to bones. The areas most commonly affected by tendon injuries are the knee, ankle joint, and elbow. Its purpose is to restore normal function or to repair normal function of the joints by following tendon lacerations.
Tendon Repair Flexor
Basically, there are 2 tendons that run in each finger towards the palm. The tendon usually moves into a narrow space in the tunnel. The first tendon goes to the fingers and bends the end joint while the second tendon goes to the middle bone and bends the joint of the first finger. If one or both tendons are cut or injured, the person may never be able to move their finger.
Tendon Repair Extensor
The function of the Achilles tendon is to attach to the heel from the bottom of the muscle, at the back of the ankle. The Achilles tendon allows the foot to either lower down or raises the heel. Achilles tendon rupture usually occurs in men between their forties and fifties when playing sports such as badminton or squash. If the tendon is not repaired, the person may never forcefully bend their leg down. This problem can cause an inability to stand on tiptoe or difficulty going up.
Shoulder Tendon repair (Rotator Cuff)
The function of the rotator cuff is to move the hand. This is a collection of tendons at the top of the shoulder. A person has a torn rotator, he or she will experience pain when moving or using their hands. Another major problem can be difficulty in raising the arm above shoulder height.
Achilles Tendon Rupture
Achilles tendon rupture occurs when there is severe pain at the back of the ankle and in the lower leg. This problem makes it difficult to walk properly. Overstretching of the tendon can cause it to tear or rupture. The tear usually occurs at the top of a person’s heel bone but can occur anywhere along the tendon. The rupture can be either partial or complete. Repairing a tendon rupture requires surgical repair.
Achilles Tendon Rupture Symptoms
Inability to walk properly or difficulty bending the leg
If the tendon is completely torn, there is difficulty in getting up on the toes of the injured foot.
severe swelling and pain near the heel
Causes of repeated stress on the Achilles tendon include-
- flat feet
- weak calf muscles
- poorly fitting or worn-out shoes
- running on hard surfaces and hills
- tight calf muscles
- bad stretching habits
Rotator Cuff Repair
The shoulder joint is basically a ball and socket joint consisting of 3 bones namely the humerus (upper arm), clavicle (collarbone), and scapula (shoulder blade).
The purpose of the rotator cuff is to hold the ball of the arm sitting in the socket of the shoulder blade. Rotator Cuff Repair Procedure
The surgery first begins by removing the bursa, other debris, and the pieces of the tendon from the inside of the shoulder at the point of movement of the rotator cuff.
The next step is to create enough space to protect the rotator cuff tendon from irritation. This may also involve removing bone spurs or shaving the bone from the tip of the shoulder blade.
Rotator Cuff Repair Benefits
- Surgery improves shoulder function
- The patient feels significant improvement in performing daily activities
- With the help of surgery, the patient can regain the lost functionality and comfort of the shoulders.
Patella Tendon Repair
Patella’s tendon is basically a structure that connects the patella (knee cap) to the shin bone. It works with the muscles in the front of your thigh (quadriceps) to straighten the leg. Eccentric contraction occurs when the quadriceps muscles contract and forcefully straighten the knee. This puts a lot of stress on the tendon.
Cost of Tendon Repair
Patients from all over the world come to India for treatment as the cost of surgery and treatment is very less. The cost in India is almost 50% less compared to the developed countries of India.
